POWER ANIMALS
Shamans in every culture work with their allies, power animals, to travel to non-ordinary reality in order to perform their healing work. Power animals are guides, protectors and teachers in the form of animal energy.
We all have a power animal that comes to us at birth, but often have other animals that come and go as we need them for certain times in our lives. If we pay attention to their wisdom it can greatly affect our lives. Sometimes they are simply messengers and are just there for a moment.
Becoming disconnected to our power animal can cause us to have a loss of power, can cause chronic depression, chronic fatigue and keep us from a level of protection we otherwise would experience. Having a connection to our power animal is like plugging in to a source of power.
Should we live our life according to our true personality, our personality will line up with the characteristics of that animal species. However, since we tend to change who we are to fit our environment, we bring upon us needless suffering as we are no longer standing in our truth; consequently we lose power.
When I work, I always include the power animal that is with the client and teach them how to work with it. Otherwise it's like building a boat without the exterior walls or the rudder - no protection or method of guidance.
