A quick way to become disconnected from self, from Earth Mother, the cosmos and to each other is to omit ceremony from our lives. In fact, most of us have never done ceremony....most of us have forgotten about ceremony. The knowledge about ceremony lies within us...it comes from our ancestors...every culture has relied on ceremony for survival with health and well-being.
So what is ceremony and what does it do for us? As simple as a meditative walk, a prayer, chant or sweatlodge, ceremony has wound itself though the tapestry of our lives in previous generations, cultures, lifetimes. It allows us to connect to Source, Creator, God; it's all the same. As we connect to Source, we begin to remember who we truly are....a spark of Light, Creator God, one thread in the web of life that connects to all other threads.
Doing ceremony brings us a sense of peace, relief from daily stress, brings us to a state of well-being. We remember ourselves, remember to go within for our answers; we are all knowing.
Blessing our food and water is ceremony. Honouring All Our Relations – the critters, creepy crawlies, flyers, standing people (trees) plants/medicines, the waters – brings us back to center, helps ground us, helps us open our hearts.
Those who are disconnected tend to feel like something is missing, they are unfulfilled even if they have all the physical stuff they could gather. They may find themselves craving something but not sure what...searching, but not sure what they are looking for. Gain more money, more stuff, but still it's not enough.
Some put their energy toward gaining power and control. They may flit from relationship to relationship, job to job and wonder why they can't settle down. They may feel lost, out of balance, flighty, and some even resort to war.
Walk the earth in your bare feet. Watch the rising of the morning sun and feel gratitude for another fine day. Ceremony....the all important element in a peaceful and loving heart Make your life a walking ceremony, or walking meditation; that every step you take, every word you speak is sacred; it takes mindfulness but it can be done. It's like spending time with your ancestors, because it is spending time with your ancestors; and it's just a really cool feeling.
